My take on Sandro Botticelli's timeless "The Birth of Venus." Originally painted circa 1484-86, it depicts the Roman goddess who functions as the embodiment of love and sexuality.
I really wanted to focus on the facial expression, rather than the scene, of the original piece, and I gravitated toward "birth" in this piece as the concept of rebirth, as in gender affirmation. So, also a bit of a tribute to our trans family celebrating Pride Month, June 2019.
