November Roundup, '21

'Twas a teensie little month, but it did bring a few gems to the party (marked in bold).

Watch This Shit:

  • Always Jane

A lovely little reality show about a trans high school senior in rural New Jersey. She's preparing for gender confirmation surgery, graduation, college, and a possible future as an LA model.

It's really heartfelt and, dare I say it... much better than I Am Jazz. (I Am Cait is still holding onto a top spot on the trans docuseries list, but only for the supporting cast. Other than when it was about them telling Caitlyn what a dumbass she is, her presence in the show really wasn't needed. Just sayin'.)

  • Black and Missing

A heartbreaking personal look at the disproportionate treatment of black youth in America and how critically it needs to change, as well as a prime example of how much good police abolish can do.

  • City of Angels | City of Death

Los "Serial Killer's Dream" Angeles: The Docuseries.

  • The Sex Lives of College Girls

    Mindy Kaling's Felicity.

  • Sort Of

A Canadian gender-fluid big-kid accidentally comes out to their mom while almost moving to Berlin, but gets stuck not moving to Berlin when one of the two parents they nanny for just up and dies. They're very "queer Daria" and I'm very into it.

  • Yellowjackets

A girl's soccer team survives a plane crash, becomes a cannibal cult, gets rescued, and keeps their people-eating a secret for 25 years. Simply put: it has no business being as fucking good as it absolutely is. Plus, my undying obsessions with Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci are by no means disappointed. All in all: you're stupid if you don't watch this.

Honorable Mention:

  • A House on the Bayou

If you're in need of a little horror pick-me-up, here's a little Louisiana tale about a cheating husband and the son of the devil.
